Upon receiving the accolade, Miss Flint said: "I am very proud that I have accomplished this in the first year of my studies and it has given me the determination to do even better in the second year."

She further stated her intent to put the financial reward towards academic growth, saying: "I'll invest the scholarship award in my future studies, it'll enable me to buy quality art supplies."

Reminiscing her journey at the university, Miss Flint said: "I've had a wonderful time and I've really developed my confidence.

"The lecturers have been amazing, they're very supportive and the work is hard, but it has really pushed me to explore my artistic abilities and step out of my comfort zone."

The university's Provost, Ann Jordan, expressed her admiration for the students that earned scholarships.

Ms Jordan said: "Congratulations to all our students who earned an Academic Scholarship or prize this year.

"These students achieved highly in their studies and it is wonderful to be able to recognise their dedication and commitment during the last academic year.

"Hopefully this award will inspire them to further academic success in future."

She added: "The scholarships and prizes are supported by generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers, and many successful graduates of the University, and we are very grateful to all our benefactors, whose generosity makes such a difference to our students."
