Bolton's Sara Cox was on a roll when she appeared in this week's episode of the Great British Bake-off and created some Lancashire delights.

The Radio 2 presenter impressed with her baking skills in the special Stand-up 2 Cancer series to be awarded tar baker.

Channel 4’s The Great British Bake Off returned in a Stand Up 2 Cancer special with celebrities in the tent looking to impress judges, Paul Hollywood, and Prue Leith.

Radio 2 drivetime presenter Sara joined Heartstopper’s Joe Locke, Rev Richard Coles, and comedian Adam Hills to make biscuit bars, pastry, and their famous best friends in the showstopper.

Sara made a tosset, a traditional Lancashire biscuit with chocolate and orange.

Paul and Prue were won over by Sara’s traditional biscuit with Prue calling it ‘delicious’ and Sara even received the famous Paul Hollywood handshake.

For the technical challenge, the celebrities were tasked with making six perfectly set custard slices.

Nobody really excelled but Sara was placed first out of a bad bunch.

Paul said: “The pastry is good; it’s laminated but it needed more time in the oven.”

For the showstopper, Sara made Jeremy Vine on a Penny Farthing cake.

Sara impressed yet again with Paul calling it ‘professional looking’ and ultimately, won the star baker.

Sara said on the show: “The star baker apron, I’m not going to take it off.

“My kids won’t believe it. It all feels like a weird cheese dream.”

Earlier last week, Spencer Matthews, Leigh Francis, Gabby Logan and Dermot O’Leary won star baker aprons in their teams.

Alison Hammond, who appeared on the celebrity version of the show before joining the show as host alongside Noel Fielding, said, “I’m totally in awe of this year’s celebrity bakers, all putting their baking skills, or in some cases lack of, under nationwide scrutiny to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.”

Dame Prue Leith said: “I'm absolutely thrilled to share that we're serving up another delightful season of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer this spring on Channel 4.

“Brace yourself for a delectable line-up of bakers, each with their own unique flair in the kitchen – some are, admittedly, a bit more flour-savvy than others!

“Filming this show was a delicious dose of fun, sprinkled with some unforgettable baking moments. I can't wait for everyone to see it.”
