RESTORATION works to safeguard one of Evesham's most iconic buildings appear to be coming to a close.

The Round House building in Evesham's Market Square is visible once again after years of scaffolding and restoration works kept it from view.

NatWest has confirmed that the removal of scaffolding marks the end of the restoration works to the Grade I listed building, with the branch set to close for good on August 25.

The refurbishment has been ongoing since 2022, which has included repairs to the timber frame and basement, as well as the removal and replacement of the pitched roof.

Betty Wormal, who was walking through Evesham Market Square this morning (June 29), said: "It's finally free.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?

"It's one of many buildings that really make Evesham stand out, and it's great that NatWest has finally finished restoring it.

"It's a shame the bank is leaving, but at least they have left a legacy."

Speaking previously, Cllr Charlie Homer said: “The news that NatWest is closing its Evesham branch is hugely disappointing for the people of Evesham, having already lost other banking facilities recently. However, we recognise and welcome NatWest’s commitment to see the restoration work through before that closure happens.

“Whenever any of us go into town, we are always asked what’s happening with the Round House, so we’re delighted the work will get underway this month. I want to see it completed as soon as possible so we can get the scaffolding and protective wrap down and enjoy the beautiful aesthetics of the building once again.

“The renovation represents a significant investment in the town that will protect and preserve a building of not just local, but national importance."
