FIVE arrests were made on Ladies Day at the Cheltenham Festival yesterday.
One man was arrested early in the day on suspicion of theft after nearly 300 racecourse tickets were stolen from the site. A second man has since been arrested and racegoers were reminded to ensure that any tickets for the day were bought from legitimate sellers only.
A further two men were arrested at the course on suspicion of handling stolen goods, following the theft of 13 boxes of race cards. A member of the public also reported the theft of some cash during the day.
A fifth man was arrested on suspicion of passing counterfeit cash in the Best Mate enclosure.
Inspector Karen Ellis said: “We’ve had a couple of reports of theft related offences and these have been dealt with quickly by our officers, resulting in a number of arrests.
“We hope that today’s positive arrests reassure the public that any incidents reported to us are taken seriously. These arrests should also act as a warning to thieves that they will be caught and brought to justice.
“The traffic flowed smoothly again this morning, with the vast majority of people getting here without any major delays and there have been no incidents of disorder or anti social behaviour.
“All in all it’s been yet another successful day at the Racecourse in terms of policing.”
