A FAMILY from Middle Littleton have been left homeless after a fire ripped through their home on Monday morning.

Firefighters from Evesham, Broadway, Bidford and Stratford rushed to the scene at about 7am and discovered what they described as an “intense fire” in a first floor bedroom at the property in School Lane.

The occupants of the house – a mother and her six-year-old son – had escaped the building before crews arrived and were checked over for the effects of smoke inhalation.

One bedroom had been completely gutted while two other bedrooms suffered fire damage and smoke logging. There was also water damage on the ground floor of the house.

Evesham station watch manager Julian Jenkins said: “Fortunately the fire was noticed fairly quickly, both by the occupants of the house and by a man who saw smoke as he walked past.

“Crews were at the scene quickly and found an intense fire burning in one of the bedrooms.

Their prompt actions helped limit the spread of the fire with the ground floor of the house largely unaffected.”

The property belongs to Rooftop Housing Group. Its deputy housing director Pete Ashworth said: “Obviously, we were concerned when hearing about the fire but we’re glad that no one was hurt.

“We are talking to our insurers about what work will be required to make the property habitable again and in the meantime have secured temporary bed and breakfast accommodation for the family.”

Police and fire officers are investigating the cause of the fire.
