WORK has been under way this week to ensure equipment for Evesham Rotary Club’s Tree of Light is in full working order in time for the start of this year’s appeal.
Now in its 12th year, the appeal allows people to remember a loved one at Christmas by making a donation in return for a dedicated light on the tree. The Tree of Light stands in Workman Gardens, overlooking the river. All money raised goes to local charities.
Mayor of Evesham Jim Bulman will switch the lights on in December.
He said: “The Tree of Light is a magnificent initiative and its success can be measured by the many years it has been going. It’s a wonderful way to support charitable efforts throughout the Vale.
“The team has been working hard to ensure all the lights are working and any bulbs that need replacing are dealt with. Thanks must go to Avon Storage, Childswickham, who are one of our many supporters. We would like to remind local charities that if they wish to be considered for a donation from the Tree of Light appeal to get in touch as soon as possible.
“We are also keen for businesses who would like to be part of one of Evesham’s major charitable events to contact us to find out what’s on offer.”
Last year’s appeal raised more than £21,000 and it is hoped this year’s appeal will be just as successful. For more information e-mail Evesham Rotary Club’s Tree of Light committee chairman John Darby on j.darby@virgin.net.
