NPOWER employees from Worcester have been talking part in a fundraising marathon in the capital.

A group of 50 employees, including two from the Worcester-based office, joined a 26 mile walk around London’s most iconic sights in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The group managed to raise an impressive £15,000 which has been matched by the energy companies bringing the total to a staggering £30,000.

It was an early start for the walkers setting off at Borough Market after an energetic warm up. Heading out along the Thames they crossed Tower Bridge and down towards the financial district. The route then took them passed Kings Cross Station and was followed by a scenic stroll through Regents Park before breaking for lunch.

As the team continued they caught sight of many more of London’s most famous landmarks such as the Natural History Museum, Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Houses of Parliament and Trafalgar Square. The final stretch took them by St Pauls Cathedral before finally arriving back at Borough Market.

Team spirits remained high throughout the eight hour challenge with colleagues supporting each other- and with some aching legs and sore feet, everyone managed to complete the gruelling course with a great sense of achievement.

Kirsten Parker-Rea, Npower operational manager, said : "This is the furthest we've walked in any challenge but we stuck together as a team. I think this is the best event yet and for a fantastic cause, I will definitely be signing up again next year.’’

Heather Tyrer, Npower’s Macmillan community delivery manager, added: "This is the second year running Npower have joined Macmillan’s London Marathon walk.

"It’s a great way to see London with so many people taking up the challenge and raising huge amounts of money Macmillan Cancer Support.’’
