A BAR is re-opening in Malvern this weekend, following six months of coronavirus-enforced closure.

The Old Con Club in Church Street is reopening under a new name having been extensively refurbished during lockdown.

Previously an events and meeting space called Malvern Radio, the club is reopening to the public and will showcase local food and drink under its new name.

While closed, the club has secured and refurbished a large outside space preciously used as the Post Office's bicycle store.

The courtyard offers a covered area where customers can eat and drink, which is especially useful while social distancing continues.

Fully licensed, the will feature award winning beers from Malvern's own Friday Beer Company, which is based in Malvern Link.

A family run catering business, Masa Mexican serves traditional Mexican cuisine with seasonal and unusual ingredients.

Chris Winstanley, director of the Old Con Club, said: "We’re really excited to be showcasing the fantastic food and drink that’s produced in Malvern.

"With two large rooms inside, and the new courtyard, we have plenty of space for people to enjoy what Malvern has to offer whilst socially distancing”.

The Old Con Club is at 4 Church Street and will be open from 6pm on Friday and 11am on Saturday.

The former Conservative Club, is part of the building housing the town’s post office and Royal Mail sorting office.

Mr Winstanley opened it as Malvern Radio back in 2019, using it as a venue for business meetings, training sessions and entertainment.

The building had been empty for a number of years before Mr Winstanley took it over, and it was officially opened in the summer of 2019.

Due to the coronavirus, it was closed along with many bars and restaurants across the country.

Lockdown allowed the site to be refurbished and re-opened.
