THE retail marketing manager at Evesham shopping and destination centre The Valley has reached the final list for a major national award.

Phil Maclean is one of just six retail marketing managers to be shortlisted in the Sceptre Awards 2016, the leading accolades for the shopping centre industry, for his work supporting the growth of The Valley.

He said: "I am truly surprised to be nominated for such a prestigious national award and feel very humbled. I am proud to work with such a strong team including our centre manager Maria Hughes, facilities manager Paul James and the two site team members Dan James and Andy Stephens for whom I couldn't have achieved the nomination without their help."

The Sceptre Awards recognise best practice in the shopping centre industry, shining a spotlight on the people delivering real excellence. Mr Maclean is shortlisted for the award of retail marketing manager of the year, one of a number of awards being made to those working in shopping centres all over the UK.

Under his leadership, The Valley has seen footfall increase by 11 per cent per cent, bucking both regional and national trends, and he has overseen nine new stores launched in 2016, including Fat Face, Mountain Warehouse, Julian Charles and The Works.

Paul Goodes, Eagle One managing director, owners of The Valley, added: “Phil has been a positive force since he joined us last year and is very deserving of an award. He has played a very important role in raising the profile of The Valley last year and has performed above and beyond our expectations. Phil has a clear vision for The Valley, but he also has the determination and personality to deliver it.”

The awards ceremony will be held at The Dorchester Hotel in London on June 21, when the winners will be announced.
