Littletons WI do not have a formal meeting during August and instead opt for a social gathering. This year following on from the last two years we held an American Supper in one of the member’s gardens. Having kept a weather eye open over what is proving to be a very erratic summer we were at least lucky enough to have a dry evening although it turned chilly towards the end. Most were of course prepared with suitable extra layers of clothing. President June Lloyd advised of a few business matters and a board was circulated for the “not to be forgotten Lunch Club” later in the month. Vice President Val Davies also announced that a practice skittles evening has been arranged for our contemplated entries in the Group and County Skittles matches.

It was then on to the serious business of the evening - food and fun. Members had very kindly brought a wide selection of both savoury and sweet foods and those who were unable to come at the last minute had also sent along their contributions for which we were very grateful. Tea and coffee was served with some having second helpings as it was getting a bit chilly by this time and then in true WI spirit, not to be defeated, some members took to the garden to take part in the various games arranged – croquet, boules, jenga and quoits. Unfortunately the tails for “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” had been mislaid (to be found later) and this will hopefully be held over until our Christmas celebration. There was also a “guess the number of marbles in the jar” competition this being won by one of our founder members, Betty Jackson. Books containing photographs of WI events and activities in the past and a year book of Littletons WI were available to view for those who wanted a more sedate evening. A big thank you to the WI husbands who helped clear up vat the end of the evening.

It will all be back to normal from next month with guest speakers over the coming months covering various subjects including Afghan Dogs and Chocolate. Our programme for 2017 is almost complete and we hope will contain something for everyone. Guests and new members are always welcome.
