Pershore Town manager Danny Janes says he is "delighted" to have been able to secure the services of England and Great Britain Deaf Football captain, Jamie Clarke.

Clarke has been with the club previously and has also featured for local clubs such as Stourport Swifts and Evesham United during his career.

The 32-year-old, who has been deaf all his life, has captained his county and Great Britain at the Deaf World Cup and Deaflympics.

Janes tried to bring Clarke in last season but after being unsuccessful then, he now has the striker signed up for the upcoming 2022/23 campaign.

"Jamie is a player I have known for a long period of time, I've played in the same team as him and I've played against him, I am delighted that I now get to manage him." said Janes.

"Jamie is a local player and we feel it is always important to bring in players who understand the ethos of the football club.

"He is well known for his quality and the amount of goals he is capable of producing. He is a real handful for defenders with his awareness and his ability to bring others into play.

"Jamie is a natural finisher and every successful team needs forward players who posses quality in the final third. We wanted to improve our front options for this season to add competition for place and to give us that ruthlessness.

"He is a fantastic signing and one that increases our chances of success this season."

Clarke is also a part-time model whilst balancing life as a footballer, as well as being an FA Role Model, which involves public speaking around deaf football.

But Clarke has played with his now boss Janes before and is confident he can provide the goals to help Pershore in their quest for promotion.

"I've known Danny since college days, his passion for the game is massive and it's been great seeing him evolving every year." said Clarke.

"When he messaged me about signing for Pershore, I was very tempted at the chance to play under him. I've had some good offers from higher clubs but I just felt like Pershore is the right place for me because of my past experiences with the club. I also have a good relationship with players, supporters and the staff.

"I remember last season when Pershore only just missed out on promotion and I was gutted for them because I thought they really deserved it, so I wanted to sign and help as much as I can with my experience and hopefully plenty of goals.

"The squad looks fantastic, I'm very confident we will achieve our main goal which is to get promoted."
