STAFF from a supermarket have raised more than £10,000 for the NSPCC after completing the London Marathon.

Warner’s Budgens owner Guy Warner, Andrew Kendry, assistant manager of the Broadway store, and Mike Worrall, manager of the Bidford store, handed over a cheque to the charity for £10,000 last week.

Over the last few months, the intrepid trio have undertaken a gruelling training schedule alongside several fund-raising events which have been supported by Warner’s Budgens customers.

Andrew finished the race in three hours 55 minutes, Guy in four hours 11 minutes and Mike in four hours 13 minutes.

“It’s been a tough few months,” said Guy, “but the amazing support we have had from staff and customers has made it worthwhile. We genuinely can’t believe how generous people have been in sponsoring our marathon fund and we are thrilled to be able to hand over such a large sum of money to the NSPCC.”

It is hoped that participants who supported the NSPCC in the marathon will have raised up to £1 million for ChildLine, the UK’s free, 24-hour helpline and website for children in danger or distress.

NSPCC corporate fund-raising manager Carrie Cardale said: “We are so grateful to all of our London Marathon runners for their fantastic efforts in aid of the NSPCC. The money that they have raised will mean that we can protect even more children and young people.”
