A DEVELOPMENT in Bidford which would see it grow by more than 120 new homes, together with a much-anticipated medical centre, is still on track, say developers.

In January, Cranbrook Homes had outline planning permission granted to demolish existing buildings on land at Friday Furlong and replace them with 125 homes, open space and access.

But work has so far failed to materialise on the site, which Bidford Parish Council confirmed was currently being used by travellers.

Village clerk Elisabeth Uggerlose said: “It’s not a pretty site so we would like to see it cleared up. But at the moment nothing is happening.

“We would especially like to see the medical centre finished as soon as possible, and at the Friday Furlong site, as the parish council is opposed to any further development in the village.”

The situation has meant that rival developers Wellbeck have had time to propose an alternative site for the medical centre, alongside a similarly sized 130-home development, on land at Salford Road.

The parish council is expecting a planning application to be submitted for this in the next month or so.

Tetlow King Planning’s Stephen Hinsley, acting as the agents for Cranbrook Homes Ltd, said he was confident their application was still on schedule, but could not give a date for when work was expected to start.
