INCIDENTS of burglary in the Bidford area have almost halved in the last month.

According to figures from Warwickshire Police, there were seven domestic burglaries in May and 26 burglaries from other locations, such as sheds and outhouses.

In June these dropped to just four and 10 respectively.

Power tools and other petrol driven garden equipment are proving to be the most popular items for thieves, but a shed load of fishing tackle was taken from a garden in Millers Close in Welford.

Some 16 bantams were also taken from the rear of a garden in Headlands Road, Welford, overnight on June 7. It is believed these were stolen to order for Stratford Livestock Market the following day.

Meanwhile, instances of anti-social behaviour have almost doubled in the same period. In May there were 17 recorded incidents compared to 30 last month, while instances of violence have remained the same at six a month.

The Big Meadow in Bidford – which is labelled as a ‘community priority’ – has not generated any calls to the police so far this month, but a police presence will continue there.

Calls have been received about youths drinking and littering at Welford Junior and Infant School.

The problem of motorbikes and scramblers using the rights of way in Broom to Wixford has surfaced again and it is believed people are bringing their bikes into the area to use the trails, as vans have been seen loading up at either end. Anyone who sees these vans is urged to discreetly make a note of their registration before passing it on to Warwickshire Police on 01926 415000.
