Pershore Town FC 88 enjoyed an exciting win in their first game under newly installed floodlights.

On Thursday, November 4, Town’s under 18 side welcomed Redditch under 18’s for a midweek clash under the lights.

The match was the club’s first chance to try out their new environmentally friendly LED floodlights and their proved to be a bright spark on the pitch too.

Joseph Peachy scored two goals for the hosts as they enjoyed a 3-2 victory.

On Tuesday, November 9, it was the first team’s chance to try out the new lights when they welcomed Redditch Borough in the first round of the Smedley Crooke Memorial Cup.

The score come the final whistle was 2-2 with all the action coming in the first half.

In the resulting penalty shootout Pershore came out 5-3 victors, a promising start under the lights.

Club secretary, Hayley Tomkins, has said there is so many people to thank, no least the club’s chairman Mark Thomson.

She said: “Without his tireless dedication and commitment to our club we would not have the privilege of these state-of-the-art floodlights, that will be used for generations to come.

“We now look forward to the dark nights and welcome them, so that we can turn our energy efficient lights on, and light up the Club.

“Please do come on down and take a look at one of our night games, they are a sight to be seen!”

Ms Tomkins also paid thanks to several senior committee members and friends of the club who helped bring about this exciting development.

She stated that the club would like to thank in particular Alan Bradstock, Alan Taylor, John Judge, Ian Gill as well as the groundsman, Nick.

She added: “Without their combined daily effort this would not have been possible, and as a club we are eternally grateful for their continuous support to our club.”

Not done with the acknowledgements yet, Ms Tomkins also highlighted the work of the Football Foundation who provided the funding from the Stadia Improvement Fund.

She said: “Without their generosity this simply would not have been possible.”

The club will also begin showing live football on Sky Sports from Monday, November 15, and are welcoming everyone, members or not, to come and enjoy their new facilities.
