THERE has been a change of captaincy at Pershore Town after former skipper Kirk Layton was confirmed as departing the club following a successful 2022/23 campaign.

Layton guided The Plums to five trophies in the last two seasons under boss Danny Janes, including the Hellenic League Division One title in April.

But ahead of Pershore's first season back at Step 5, he has followed manager Danny Janes in leaving the club.

As a result, Pershore's Jordan Adams has been named the new captain for the 2023/24 season by new manager Lewis Marston, who says he is the "perfect replacement".

"Jordan is someone who I know away from football and for everyone who knows him on or off the field they are aware of how much of a leader he is," said Marston.

"He is someone who myself and the management team can trust along with being a hugely popular face in the changing room which is massive for all departments going into pre-season.

"Losing Kirk at first felt like a bit of a blow, the last thing I wanted going into a new season was to lose last season's captain, but I feel with Jordan we have landed on our feet with a perfect replacement."

As well as Layton, Pershore have also seen right-back Logan Stoddart leave. The former Worcester Raiders right-back joined the Plums for the 2022/23 campaign and played a key role in Janes' team, captaining the side on the odd occasion.
