VISITORS to Severn Valley Railway this half term can enjoy a fun-filled programme of events with plenty of spooky encounters.

Between Saturday, October 22, and Sunday, October 30, visitors can climb aboard one of the SVR's heritage steam trains for an exciting ride into the countryside - stopping off at any of the six historic stations along the way.

Expert entertainer, Miss Picklelily, will be performing her fast and funny blend of magic during her Halloween-themed shows at the Engine House Visitor Centre on October 25, 26 and 27.

If a journey on a full size steam train isn't enough, families can enjoy an extra ride on the Coalyard Miniature Railway, at Kidderminster station, operating between 2.30pm and 5pm, on October 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30.

The ever-popular, sold out Ghost Trains will be arriving on October 27, running until October 29. The family-friendly Halloween spectaculars take passengers on a thrilling night-time steam train ride, passing through the haunted stations.

There will be ghosts and ghouls aplenty, as well as face painting and a children's disco.

For those looking for some early Christmas presents inspiration, the all-new Christmas Gift Fayre takes place at the Engine House Visitor Centre on October 22 and 23.

A range of stalls selling great gifts, from paintings to chocolate hampers will be on offer alongside the SVR's Christmas gift shop. Visitors can also create their own gifts thanks to a pottery painting workshop, lead by the Melting Pot, based in Bewdley.

Clare Gibbard, marketing and communications manager, said: "We have got a whole host of fun on offer this half term, from taking a trip back in time on one of our steam trains and heading out for a day of discovery along the line to being wowed by Miss Picklelily at the Engine House and you can even pick up some great, unique Christmas presents at our Christmas Gift Fayre.

"Our Ghost Trains are the perfect opportunity for families to get dressed up in their Halloween outfits and join us for a fun-filled evening of all things ghostly. Question is - do you dare to join us?"

The Severn Valley Railway's Santa Steam Special services will launch on December 3, and run each weekend in December up until Christmas Eve.
