AN ancient church building in Bromsgrove will be lit up at night, thanks to dedicated fundraising from local volunteers.

St John the Baptist Church in Kidderminster Road is being fitted with external colour-changing lights as part of a project by the church’s charity Friends of St John’s to raise the building’s profile in the town.

Electricians from Bromsgrove firm Woliters, assisted by a cherry picker from GTAccess, have been busy this week installing lights to the church building and its tower, and coloured lights to the spire which will be used for events.

Friends of St John’s chairman Jo Slade said: “The Friends group are keen that the church is used by community groups and it is hoped that the external lighting will raise the profile of the building and ensure the church building is a focal point in the town at night as well as during the day.”

Bromsgrove Advertiser:

The installation work will continue through October and will culminate in a ‘Big Light Up’ switch-on ceremony on Tuesday, October 30 at 6pm.

Jo added: "This project has been made possible thanks to the support and generosity of local people who have supported the Friends of St John's as a Friend and by attending or supporting events such as the Bromsgrove Christmas Markets and The Snowman concerts.

"The team is hugely grateful to everyone for their contributions.

"Everyone is welcome to come along to St John's to see the church light up."
