A LIFELONG Wolves fan from Wordsley has compiled a new book on Wanderers’ return to the top flight – in a bid to raise £10,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The Pack Is Back, which has been put together by Wolves superfan Steve Plant, provides a comprehensive look at Wolves’ Championship-winning 2017-18 season from the supporters’ perspectives.

Steve has got some famous names involved in his tome, with personal insights from celebrity Wolves fan Robert Plant, of rock legends Led Zeppelin, and Wanderers captain Conor Coady.

Former Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, currently in remission from leukaemia, and TV presenters Jonny Phillips and Jacqui Oatley also contributed, as did Wanderers managing director Laurie Dalrymple.

Steve, who wrote another Wolves book, They Wore The Shirt, last year, said: “So many people were asking me to look at putting together another publication so this seemed like a natural idea, the difference being that we are using the fans to tell a large part of the story.

“This is arguably one of the most exciting times in our recent history and people are really keen to savour every minute and relive some unforgettable moments.

“We have raised over £25,000 for Cure Leukaemia and £37,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital through previous books, a 24-hour penalty shoot-out and special tribute dinner.

“The target is another £10,000 to go towards BCH’s outstanding work.”

A special event will be held this Friday (October 12) to celebrate the launch of the book, with just 2018 copies set to be sold.

A host of VIP guests including former players Ikeme, Kenny Hibbitt, Paul Butler and Mel Eves will be on hand.

Paul Berry, who has been responsible for editing the book, added: “The project is a real Black Country effort and I think that’s reflected in the style and the content.

“Fittingly, there is also a tribute to John ‘Foz’ Hendley, the much-loved former Wolves programme editor and historian.

“It’s great that members of Foz’s family will also be there at the event to mark the launch of this unique publication, which Steve has very kindly dedicated to him.”
