SIR – Is Brexit still democratic? Let us consider.
The referendum happened more than two years ago. Leave was the clear outcome: had article 50 been invoked there and then, then any remain argument rendered was null and void.
It is now two years and four months later so the much vaunted Brexit mantra “carrying out the democratic will of the British people” is possibly well past its sell-by date.
There is apparently a perceptible change of mind towards remain, considering the complexity and down side of leaving the EU, plus the tardy, chaotic government handling of the matter.
Is it democratic, or indeed legal, for the government to blithely go ahead with Brexit under the banner of ‘democracy’, knowing that the majority, however slight, of British people are no longer in favour?
That is my question to you, the reader.
