PEOPLE are living longer but it is not many that get to reach 100 but that is the milestone that a resident of a Tenbury nursing home has just reached.

Tom Done was surrounded by staff and other residents at the Old Rectory Nursing Home when he put on display his special birthday card from the Queen.

He is originally from Worcester where he was born in November 1914 just days after the end of World War One.

Had he arrived in the world a few days earlier then he would have joined a very rare club of war babies.

In the UK there are thought to be around 14,000 people who are 100 or more which is just a bit higher than the population of Ludlow in a country of 60 million people. The majority of these are women, with the oldest person in the UK, Grace Jones, aged 113, also living in Worcestershire.
