A Worcester mum’s fundraising event surpassed her wildest expectations, making over £1000 for cystic fibrosis research.

Yvonne Molloy decided to do something when her son Oscar was diagnosed with CF when he was just two weeks old.

She said she wanted to do something to raise awareness, saying: "When we had the diagnosis our worlds fell apart.

Ms Molloy organised the event with Jackie Wiltshire, Jyoti Evans, Talia K, Hazel Adams and Kerrie Macdonald.

“I decided with some of the other mums that I know to do some kind of event and try to raise some money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as they do such incredible work.

“We only expected to raise £150 by selling some raffle tickets but it just snowballed and became something incredible.

"The local community has been amazing."

The fundraising fayre was held at Red Hill Social Club and was supported by local businesses including Keystones Cocktail Bar, who gave a cocktail masterclass and donated drinks all night.

Barbers, hairdressers, restaurants and bars all donated vouchers for special offers which went into the raffle and the night raised a grand total of £1000.

Ms Molloy said she hopes the money will go towards improving access to a new drug called Orkambi which helps those with CF. She said:“We want to start a petition to get it readily available for sufferers and we need to raise awareness of it because CF is such a life-limiting condition.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came and all the businesses who donated – it was amazing.”

Orkambi is not currently provided by the NHS except in rare cases on compassionate grounds.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence were unable to recommend Orkambi for general use within the NHS on grounds of cost-effectiveness and a lack of long-term data.

MP's across the country support it's adoption, including Worcester's Robin Walker.
