THE Met Office has warned of possible power cuts, road closures and travel delays as snow and blizzards hit the UK this weekend, but Worcestershire looks set to escape the worst.

Yellow weather warnings that say some rural communities are at risk of being cut off, are in place for parts of England including East Midlands between Saturday lunchtime and 10am on Sunday, with heavy snow forecast.

Forecasters says there is a chance of snow for the county, but it is most likely to fall as sleet and rain from 8pm on the Saturday, into the evening.

And the forecast looks brighter on Sunday with sunny intervals predicted, and rain not hitting the area until the evening.

Although the county looks set to avoid the worst it will feel chilly though as temperatures will be at a low of 2C and a high of just 7C.

Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager, tweeted: "Much colder air of continental origin arriving now giving a very different feel outside - chilly."

Exactly a year ago there was widespread disruption after heavy snow closed roads and schools, and cancelled trains, with temperatures plummeting to -8C.
