ROWERS in the King's School Worcester's Boat Club have raised funds for three charities.

Staff, students and ex-students powered four of the indoor rowing machines on a continuous basis to row one million meters, the equivalent of 620 miles, from Friday evening to Saturday morning.

Over 75 students took part over the course of the weekend, working in teams.

The money raised will be split between Cardiac Risk In the Young, St Richard’s Hospice and Alzheimer’s Society.

Members of the Old Vigornian community supported the team and took their turn to row, including the Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Jabba Riaz. The challenge was completed in just over 18 hours and even received video messages of encouragement from four Team GB rowers.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters more than five thousand pounds was raised, exceeding the fundraising target of three thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds. The total raised to date since the challenge started six years ago now stands at more than twenty thousand pounds.

Head of Rowing, Jim Chalmers, said: “It was a sterling effort from this year’s team, who showed true spirit and determination and worked together to complete the challenge.

I’d like to thank everyone who supported the challenge, including parents and family members who provided refreshments, members of staff who gave up their time to supervise, our dedicated team of rowers and of course everyone who made a donation, helping us to raise funds for three fantastic charities.”
