A MIX of 110 homes, bungalows and apartments will be built in Drakes Broughton after plans were approved.

The plans by Sanctuary Group include 44 affordable homes and a collection of one to five-bedroom homes, 33 bungalows, of which 10 will be affordable, green space and a children's play area.

Land to the west of the homes has also been included for the expansion of St Barnabas CE First and Middle School.

Permission was given by Wychavon District Council's planning committee at a meeting last Thursday (December 13) with a long list of conditions.

The council has told Sanctuary Group that no homes can be occupied until parking and turning facilities have been built.

Councillor Rob Adams said he would vote in favour of the homes plan because it was supported by Cllr Paul Middlebrough, who represents Drake Broughton on the district council, but was unhappy at seeing more houses being built in the village.

He said he wished no more homes would be built in Drakes Broughton but that was a wish that would not come true even at Christmas.

Cllr Adams said: “I wish I could take a vote on whether or not we have any more houses in Drakes Broughton.

“This village has been blown inside out with houses.

“This will go through today and I shall vote for it because the local member supports it and the houses and the bungalows have all got good things going for it, but by Jove they have had it in the neck.”

Cllr Paul Middlebrough said the homes were in the right area but was disappointed plans had got to the stage they were at.

He said: “I am disappointed we have come to this but I think it is the best that we could have possibly asked for."

The plan was initially rejected by the district council in 2015 because it was deemed to be too big, unsustainable and did not meet the needs of the community. The area was also not included in the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) which was being compiled at the time the application was submitted.

The decision was overturned in January 2016 following an appeal.
