Abberley Hall School, an independent prep school located between Worcester and Tenbury, won Independent School of the Year in the 2018 Worcestershire Education Awards.

In last year’s nominations, Abberley Hall School was described as a "unique" place where children flourish with parents described staff as "amazing".

Headmaster Will Lockett said: “It was a real boost to be recognised externally in a competition sponsored by Worcester University. Not only was this confirmation that we are engaged in a worthwhile enterprise by providing an amazing breadth of teaching and opportunity as well as a focus on the individual child, but it was also wonderful for the staff of the school to see their endeavours recognised.

“They pour an incredible amount of energy and imagination into giving all our pupils an enriching and stimulating experience.

“An unexpected corollary to this were the congratulations that arose as a result of winning the award from parents, visitors and former pupils. The award seemed to give people the excuse to add their own supportive and positive comments on what we are doing at Abberley Hall.”

Deputy head teacher of Abberley Hall, Nigel Richardson, said: “The best thing about Abberley Hall is the chance every child gets to meet their potential, whether in sport, drama, art or music, the time they get and the chance to experience a range of subjects and activities early on in life before they have to make the choice to specialise.

“The confidence children gain from coming to Abberley Hall is a great asset and they learn that confidence through public speaking and performing which builds them up for the future.”

The deadline for nominations is April 18. Finalists are chosen by a panel of judges and winners are announced during an awards ceremony at the University Arena on June 20.
