AVID readers at a Halesowen primary school were left spellbound by the visit of a popular children's author.

Writer P.G.Bell, whose 2018 book The Train To Impossible Places has received rave reviews, visited Huntingtree Primary School in Huntingtree Road.

The Welsh author, whose first name is Peter, wrote the book after his son demanded an original bedtime story, so his father would delve into magical and weird worlds to keep him entertained.

One of the most exciting parts of the visit was where the children were asked to create their own train and crew with Peter, dipping into their own imaginations.

Finally, the children were able to ask Peter questions and have their books signed - one pupil, who had read his book before the visit, even gifted him with a book review of which Peter said: “This is the best review I’ve ever had!"

He added: “I had a brilliant time at Huntingtree, it was wonderful to meet so many enthusiastic young readers.

"You’re all bursting with great ideas, don’t be afraid to follow them.

"Thank you for making me feel so welcome and I hope you all enjoy reading The Train to Impossible Places.”

Samantha Jones, the teacher who invited Peter into school, said: “This author visit has been so successful.

"From beginning to end, Peter and his publicist, Liz Scott, were so enthusiastic and helped us to continue to bring passion and excitement to reading and writing at Huntingtree.

"The Train to Impossible Places sold out; I had to order more copies.

"The children were so excited to have their copies signed by Peter himself; of course, I was in the line waiting with them!”
