DO you love plants and gardening? Do you believe that improving the green spaces of Malvern will help to make the community a better place to live and work? Are you passionate about the town in which you live?

If so, the organisers of Malvern in Bloom want to hear from you.

This year, Malvern in Bloom will be hoping to make a triumphant return to the Heart of England in Bloom competition, in which the town won gold awards ten years running.

Last year, it was decided to take a break from the competition and only enter Great Malvern Cemetery into the parks and open spaces category, but nonetheless it won a further gold award.

This year, the town will once again be entered into the small town category, with efforts concentrated on the three wards of Chase, Pickersleigh and Priory, and the Malvern in Bloom committee is all set to restart its horticultural activities in the coming months.

On Tuesday, February 26, town mayor Cynthia Palmer will be hosting an open evening and workshop from 5.30pm to 7pm at Abbey Road Coffee, Abbey Road.

A council spokesman said: "We are hoping that the town can build on its previous successes and aim to receive a further gold.

"With the right people to lead the way, providing inspiration and fresh ideas, and volunteers who can help with our amazing floral displays, the general upkeep of the town, litter picking, pruning and weeding, to mention only a few of the jobs to be done all year round, it’s a blooming certainty.

"If you would like to join the bloom committee, or if you’d like to get your hands dirty and volunteer to assist with gardening projects throughout Malvern, please come along to learn more about how you can be involved in the campaign.

"Everyone is welcome, whether you just have a general love of gardening or even have a specialist skill in this area."

Anyone who is interested in in finding out more about the project is urged to contact Lyndsey Davies at Malvern Town Council 01684 566667 or ldavies@malvern-tc.org.uk.
