THE head of an enforcement company hired to provide security at a Worcester modified car meet-up has said it’s a “matter of time” before someone is injured at such an event.

The All-Mods organised event was originally billed to be taking place at Elgar Retail Park on Sunday (March 17) before ultimately being held in Stratford, where an estimated 600 cars attended.

Around 450 cars had filled the ERP car park in Blackpole Road during a previous event on January 13 – upsetting residents and councillors who complained about noise and safety.

Site owners Legal & General previously told the Worcester News it had not given permission for any events before hiring the Burlington Group to provide security for Sunday.

Jonathan Chatfield, managing director of Burlington, said only a few people attended the original event site, but regardless they were contracted “to make sure people were safe”.

London-based UK Land Security were subcontracted for 12 hours until 4am on Monday, bringing dogs and erecting barriers.

Mr Chatfield said his company has dealt with a number of similar events around the UK, largely in London, and said it wouldn’t be long before someone is hurt or worse.

“It’s not managed, that’s the problem,” he said. “Some people start racing their cars and they are doing doughnuts – it’s not the safest activity.

“People are standing around watching and not behind safety barriers.

“It’s only a matter of time before someone is hit.”

However, referring to ERP on Sunday, he said: “It was contained and well managed. I’m really pleased it went as well as the client wanted.”

PC Lauren Hasted, of Warndon Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “A dispersal was authorised so that we had the power to tell people to leave who acted in an inappropriate manner," she said.

An All-Mods representative said the measures were a waste of money and claimed authorities refused to believe the venue change.
