A SPECIAL needs coordinator who “always gives her best” has been nominated for a Worcestershire Education Award.

Cheryl Hampton, from Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School, in Bransford Road, Worcester, has received a nomination for the Special Education Needs (SENCO) award.

Mrs Hampton, aged 48 said: “It has come as a shock to be nominated actually. Every day you do your job to the best you can. I am surprised, you don’t think anyone notices.

“I love my job and the children are great. They are a lovely bunch and it makes what I do enjoyable. Every day is different in my role. I love being able to help the children and allow them to access their learning.”

Speaking about her role at the school, Mrs Hampton, from Worcester, added: “My job involves making every child feel included and making them feel part of the class.

“I support the parents and staff whose children have additional needs.”

Mrs Hampton has been the SENCO coordinator at the school for six years. She was formerly a teaching assistant where she supported pupils with English as an additional language at a primary school.

Suzanne Allies, who sent in the nomination form said: “Cheryl always gives her best to her teaching role, especially in relation to time spent in school and planning at home. She has made an outstanding contribution to her SENCO role and having a positive impact on children, staff and parents. She recognises individual needs and works very hard to support children using an inclusive and fun approach.

“Cheryl has always gone above and beyond in every role she has fulfilled.

“She has for many years helped children to flourish and reach their full potential in school.

“She is a very special individual; whose effort and care deserves to be recognised and awarded.”
