A TEACHER from a school near Evesham has been nominated in the Worcestershire Education Awards.

Lucy Thomas, from Bengeworth CE Academy, has been nominated for New Teacher of the Year, with her nomination calling her "very nurturing and kind" and that "nothing is too much trouble" for her.

Miss Thomas, 21, said: "It is a really lovely surprise to find out I have been nominated.

"I am only in my first year here but I feel like I have learnt so much in my time at Bengeworth.

"It is a really nice environment and the rest of the staff are always there to help me out and give advice and support."

Miss Thomas teaches year three pupils in what she says is a crucial stage in their education, adding: "It is really important when they are at that age because it is a big step up from being at the younger end of the school.

"One of the other things I love about working here is the opportunity for training you get.

"I have had opportunities to study and learn new things that I might not have got elsewhere and having such a wonderful, supportive group of teachers around me makes all the difference."

Bengeworth CE was also nominated for School of the Year in this year's education awards, having had two winners in last year's competition.

Greg Satterley won Teacher of the Year and Anna Chilvers won Support Staff of the Year.

The deadline for nominations is April 18. Finalists are chosen by a panel of judges and winners are announced during an awards ceremony at the University Arena on June 20.
