Avondale Self Storage, a family-run business in Broadway, is run by Henry and Claire Bentall, Henry’s sister Jo covering weekends and parents Alan and Rosemary the directors.

Henry, 46, said: “Being a family business means that we get to know our customers and over the years we’ve become their advisers, friends and even agony aunts.

“We actually sold one customer’s house to another, with their permission of course, also Claire and I bought our own home through a customer.

“At the very least we offer advice on removal and van hire companies.”

The business opened its doors in 2005 and have been serving the area with its Self Storage facility ever since.

Having achieved 90 per cent occupancy, the family took the step to extend Avondale from 385 to 500 individual storage rooms, which were completed in February.

They have also invested this year in the original building, replacing the roof with a new insulated one and resurfacing the forecourt.

Henry added: “For us, peace of mind is key.

"We have dehumidifiers to keep humidity under control, monitored intruder and fire alarm systems and more CCTV cameras than you can throw a stick at.”

On June 8 this year, Henry will be running the Heineken Race to the Tower in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

The run is a gruelling 53 mile route following The Cotswold Way from Stroud to Broadway Tower, climbing 7,500ft along the way.

Henry said: “I’m aiming to complete the run within 10 hours.

“The charity is one any male approaching mid-life may be needy of, as one in 8 of us blokes will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, or if like me, your father has the disease, then we’re two and a half times more likely to get it.”
