STOURBRIDGE detective Lucy Kirwan hopes to raise more than £2,000 for charity by taking part in this year’s London Marathon.

Lucy, aged 38, is getting set to achieve a “lifelong ambition” when she competes in the event for the first time on Sunday April 28.

She will be raising money for Barnardo’s and its work with some of the most vulnerable children and young people across the UK.

Lucy said: “It’s been a lifelong ambition to take part in the London Marathon, and I wanted to raise money for charity while training.

“I’m running for Barnardo’s because I want to make a difference to children’s lives.

“I currently work alongside them as a child protection detective inspector for the police, and I’m a huge advocate of their efforts to support victims of child sexual exploitation. They’re an amazing charity and I wanted to show my appreciation.”

She added: “I’ve already reached my £2,000 target thanks to the generosity of friends and family, and several cake sales at work and my children’s school.

“My local branch of Lloyds Bank has also been very generous in providing £500 of matched-funding.

“This is my first London Marathon but I’ve previously competed in the Birmingham, Manchester and Paris events."
