THE ride-out by young cyclists through the city centre on Saturday has divided opinion amongst the commenters.

The cyclists had staged the event in response to allegations about young riders pulling wheelies and similar stunts on their bikers.

Around 50 of them took part in Saturday's event, but many commenters were critical of the way they rode.

Rachel Harrison said: "40 kids with at least 10 pulling wheelies heading towards and passing too close to an elderly lady with a walking frame is very poor behaviour and disrespectful. Wouldn’t be so bad if they stuck to one side or walked their bikes through the busy area."

Gemma Harris said: "I witnessed this today and their behaviour was disgusting. They nearly knocked a little girl over. Hope they are very proud of themselves."

Jo Freeman said: "No one is saying kids shouldn’t ride bikes. I’m all in support of anything that gets kids out the house and off gadgets. Tere has just been an absolute increase in young riders taking too many risks. There’s a difference between kids having a bit of fun on a bike and putting their lives and others at risk."

Beata Paczkowska said: " Is this such a big deal to drive a car more careful when they are around? Let’s be nice for each other and let kids to have a life."

Julie Greaves said: "These cyclists passed me in Sidbury. I couldn’t even go on a green light as they surrounded all traffic including my car. If they are going to ride they need to adhere to the Highway Code."

Will Son said: "If today was about showing how law abiding cyclists are, they failed miserably. All they did was prove that a good percentage of them have no respect or knowledge of the law."

Mike Parkin said: "Some of the outraged motorists of Worcester might want to consider their understanding of the rules of the road especially in relation to traffic lights, cycle only advanced stop lines and box junctions."

Angie Grayson said: "There is nothing for young people to do in Worcester. Many more young people than the number of facilities available. This morning Worcester had a bit of real life about it- I watched them on their bikes and thought ‘great, at least they’ve got off their phones and got out there’."

Daniel Turner said: "There is a time and a place to do wheelies and on the road or path is not one of them. It is dangerous and even worse if you land wrong and not wearing a helmet."

Kay Pipe said: "I hate to say it but as soon as someone is killed then something will change but unfortunately families will have to live with the devastation."
