ORGANISERS of Stourbridge Carnival are getting set for another bumper fun day.

This year's event, which will have an environment theme, will take place in the town centre on Sunday July 7.

Attractions will include a fun fair, a host of stalls, displays, demonstrations, dance performances, a classic car display and an appearance by popular Black Country comedy act The Fizzogs.

The traditional Carnival Princess and Rosebud competition will kick off the proceedings at 10.30am. There will be goody bags for all entrants and cash prizes up for grabs for the winners. Last year's Carnival Princess was Kasie Burns from Wollaston, and Harlie Hampton from Lower Gornal won the Rosebud competition.

Youngsters interested in vying for the crowns this time round are asked to sign in at 10.15am.

Four to six-year-olds are invited to try out for the Rosebud title and little misses aged seven to ten can vie for the Princess crown.

The main event will get underway, starting with a parade through the town, from Lower High Street at 1pm.

Organiser David Harcourt said: "It's just a few weeks away and we are getting ready for another great Carnival Sunday."

Last year's event was the hottest on record with temperatures in the high 20s leaving revellers sizzling but whether this year's carnival will attract the same good weather, given the recent downpours, remains to be seen.
