DEBRIS that is currently resting against Worcester Bridge following the recent floods will be cleared this Sunday evening.

A road closure will take place in order to accommodate the excavator and vehicles that will carry out the work.

Coming inbound from St John’s into Worcester City Centre, both lanes over the bridge are going to be closed between 5pm and10pm to allow the debris that has been washed down the River Severn during the recent floods to be cleared.

A 360 degree long arm grab will sit on Worcester Bridge on Sunday evening and will work alongside boats with chainsaw operatives to remove the debris.

Jon Fraser, Worcestershire County Council Highways, said: “We’ve been working closely with our partners at Worcester City Council and the Environment Agency during the recent flood event, and monitoring the river levels.

"We’re now at a point with the river receding where it is safe to remove the debris. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the upcoming closure.”

There will be a signed diversion during the closure directing motorists to use Carrington Bridge.

One lane will also be closed westbound heading towards St Johns but access will still be possible.
