A MUM who was caught drink driving during Westfest was worried about her car being vandalised.

Coralina Smith was stopped by police on a back road near to the Malvern festival site at around 10.30pm on June 29 because she was continuously “beeping her horn” while stopped in Old Hollow and then failed a roadside breath test.

Nick Roberts, defending, said his client had initially left her Ford Fiesta in a designated parking field before consuming numerous alcoholic drinks with friends at the annual festival.

The 49-year-old had not intended to drive but was apparently told there had been reports of criminal damage to cars in the field and decided to try move hers to a nearby street to “make it safe”.

After giving a breath sample at the police station, she was found to have 77 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millitres of breath.

The court heard Smith, of Sayers Avenue, Malvern, has two dependant children aged 17 and 14, but is not currently working though is in receipt of benefits.

She accepted a charge of driving a motor vehicle when alcohol consumed was above the legal limit when appearing in Worcester Magistrates Court last Thursday (July 18).

She was banned from driving for 20 months by chair of the bench Dr Carys Clarke and ordered to pay £135 in court costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
