NOMINATIONS for this year’s City of Worcester Sports Awards close at noon on August 4.

The awards are delivered in partnership with Freedom Leisure Active Communities and Sport Worcester, as well as being supported by the city council.

The 16th annual awards evening, to be held at the University of Worcester Arena on September 12, will be hosted by long-standing supporter Steve Cram CBE.

120 sporting VIPs, award nominees, clubs, businesses and sponsors are set to attend.

Those honoured will include local sporting heroes, high achievers and ambassadors, with 14 award categories, all supported by as many key sponsors, including main event backer Heart of Worcestershire College.

Categories are designed to recognise achievements of sporting participants, schools, volunteers, coaches, clubs, teams and organisations, and this year’s full list of award categories can be found on the website.

Matthew Rogers, Freedom Leisure Active communities manager, said the awards are the “highlight of the city’s sporting calendar” and a “celebration of the city’s talent in grass roots sport”.

Councillor Lynn Denham, vice chair of the city council’s communities committee, said: “Everyone involved in sport in Worcester – from the players and athletes to the coaches and volunteers – plays an important part in building stronger communities in our city.

“This is the moment for those hardworking people to be recognised.”
