A SCHEME for an artwork to celebrate one of the Faithful City's most famous products has been mooted by the indefatigable Cllr Richard Udall.

He put forward the suggestion that giant bottle of Worcestershire sauce be included among a series of artworks proposed for traffic islands on routes into the city.

And why not? Worcester-shire sauce has truly taken the name of the the city and the county around the world and into kitchens in countless nations around the globe.

Lea and Perrins sauce, the original and to many the irreplaceable, is made in the city to this day, although there are other products made by manufacturers elsewhere that also use the name.

It is doubtless used enthusiastically by people who only have the faintest idea where Worcester is, but still appreciate the unique tang it brings to everything from cheese on toast to marinaded barbecue meats.

Such a popular and ubiquitous project, hailing as it does from Worcester, deserves commemoration, and Cllr Udall's proposal is as good a way as any to achieve this end.
