WHEN the Rocky Horror Show came to Malvern Theatres this week, the visit was a homecoming for the production's choreographer.

Andrew Ahern, aged 36, was brought up in Malvern, and went to the St Joseph's primary and the Chase High School, before going to university in Manchester, studying history of art.

He said: "I always wanted to act, and I started going to dance classes and got more and more interested in that."

He subsequently worked for productions of touring favourites including A Chorus Line, Salad Days and The Boyfriend, and was a member of the mass choreography team for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics held in Sochi, Russia, in 2018.

He worked on the Rocky Horror Show 40th anniversary production, which was filmed at The Playhouse Theatre in London's West End and shown in cinemas across the country.

That led to his appointment with the Rocky Horror Show world tour, the show that is in Malvern this week, and which after finishing its UK tour, will be heading out to South Africa.

While he is here in Malvern, he is looking forward to meeting up with friends and family members, many of whom will be attending the show.

He said: "It's quite humbling. When I was younger I dreamed of this as a career, but I never thought it would really happen. But now it has happened.

"All my family live in Malvern and they are coming to see the show. It will be great to see them in the audience at the theatre."

The Rocky Horror Show is on in Malvern Theatres until Saturday.
