A MUM has plunged 15,000 feet from the sky in a bid to boost charitable funds for a cause close to her heart.

Gemma Walton completed a charity skydive to raise money for Leukaemia Busters, an organisation that funds research for patients with leukaemia and other related blood cancers.

Miss Walton felt inspired to do the jump to help the charity which has supported a friend of her son, Mason, seven.

Zain Jamil, also seven, is currently going through chemotherapy treatment for the disease.

The 31-year-old said: “I wanted to do this in recognition of all the young people going through leukaemia.

“I personally have wanted to do something for this charity as one of my sons’ close friends currently has leukaemia.”

Zain, who attends Hallow Primary School, was diagnosed last October, after he was frequently having nosebleeds and showed signs of bruising.

Miss Walton, from Hallow, near Worcester said: “I feel a skydive was suited to my personality – a bit wacky. Throwing myself out of a plane, it’s all a bit crazy, but I loved every second of it.

“It was scary, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Obviously, the nerves get to you beforehand, however when I was actually in the sky, I was calm.

“It was one of the best experiences of my life. The adrenaline and all the views you could see from the sky were incredible.”

Miss Walton, who completed the jump on July 28, has reached her fundraising target of £500 but is still receiving donations to support the family.
