A BEWDLEY golfer teed up the perfect marriage proposal for his partner after she completed a challenging charity game.

Sarah Laker-Smith, aged 49, who is ladies golf captain of Little Lakes Golf Club, took part in a charity 54 hole challenge on Saturday, August 3, at the club, when she was surprised by partner Keith Bradley, aged 39.

At the final hole, Keith had prepared a personalised flag with "Sarah will you marry me?" written on it, with an arrow pointed down to the hole.

Sarah's eagle eye noticed that placed in the hole was a ring and Keith appeared on the green with a red red rose, proposing on one knee.

She says the proposal was "totally unexpected."

"On the last hole it was a complete shock. I dropped my golf club and burst out crying", Sarah said.

The charity game, which Sarah played alongside men's golf captain Andrew Higginson, took eight hours to complete and the club raised £1,038 for Acorns Children's Hospice.

Sarah added: "I was emotional already because of raising the money.

"It didn't sink in what Keith did. Me and Keith both play golf. It was a big day for us and it was the right time to do it.

"It was lovely, all the golfers were there."

The couple celebrated with other members of the club at a disco later that evening, which quickly became an engagement party.

Keith and Sarah have been together for three months, but have known each other for over ten years having first met at the club.

Keith said: "We met up and the spark was there. I never loved anyone else like this before. It was the right thing to do."

The couple are planning to tie the knot in springtime next year.

Keith added: "It was just amazing. I have never felt so proud in my life.

"It was amazing to see how emotional she was. It was overwhelming."
