Enjoy arts weekend at one of the leading centres for arts in Worcester

Holding the event in a building which has been developed to showcase the county’s artistry and craftsmanship, the Royal Porcelain Works will host the weekend from Saturday, August 24, to Monday, August 26.

Originally founded by Robert Chamberlain and being redeveloped by the Bransford Trust, the Royal Porcelain Works is based on the old Royal Worcester factory site in Severn Street.

It aims to create a new centre for the arts in the city with new cultural development that features arts and crafts, a new exhibition centre, sitting alongside the popular Museum Of Royal Worcester.

The event, organised in partnership with Participate In Art, is offering a wide range of free events including portraits by caricaturist Andy Meanock, a long gallery of works by national artists including Steve J Harvey, Bic Beaumont, Rebecca Daffeh, Colin Clarke and Sam Fenner, and 3D glass fusion by Sarah Greening, glass pendants by Richards Evans and pottery by Chris Greening.

An artist open studio and meet the artist sessions are also available to see, involving artwork and live creations by Jean Baynham, Jantil Moon, Richard Delingpole and Jilly Oxlade-Arnott, as well as the first presentation of the new bone China ranges from fourth generation Worcester Porcelain workers, Josiah and Harry Davis of Kinver ceramics.

White Sock Theatre will perform three outdoor plays from its popular Story Book Adventures and there will be a three-day live installation of Love Letters production from Brain Cocaine.

There will also be music performances, including from the talented Andy Meanock, live poetry performances and singing workshop Un-Limit Your Voice by the Royal Porcelain Works in-house choir Voices Unlimited.

Worcester Festival activities will be taking place during the same weekend involving a set from Vamos Theatre, a day of Try the Horn and the Worcester Festival Jazz Band.

And the event will also have an information stand about Worcestershire Open Studios and Worcester Music Festival events.

Sara Matthews, the Royal Porcelain Works' general manager, said: “This is Worcester’s first ever art and performance weekend on such a scale and we are thoroughly looking forward to opening our beautiful spaces to host such a fabulous event.

"There will be something for everyone."

Chris Oxlade-Arnott, director of Participate in Art, added: “Our event looks set to be an amazing weekend of culture with live music, song, poetry, plays, interactive installations, art and artists. Suitable for all ages, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in art and culture in all its forms.”

The event runs 11am to 5pm on the Saturday and Sunday, and 11am to 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday.
