UPDATE 3.40PM: Highways England have confirmed that the road has now reopened.
A SERIOUS crash has closed the A49 in Herefordshire.
The road was closed in both directions between the A4137 and the B4521.
A fire service spokesperson said crews from Hereford, Ross and Whitchurch were called to the serious collision on the A49 near Pengethley Garden Centre at 6.11am this morning.
The incident is ongoing at present and emergency services remain in scene.
A signed diversion is currently in place and the road is expected to remain closed for some time.
Highways England said northbound motorists should follow the hollow square symbol from the A49/A40 junction. Take the A40 southbound. At the A4137/B4229 junction take the A4137 to join the A49 at Michaelchurch.
For those heading southbound, exit the A49 at Michaelchurch and follow the hollow diamond symbol. Take the A4137 southbound to its junction with the A40/B4229. Take the A40 northbound to meet the A49 at Wilton.
