THERE are many people whose hearts will sink when they learn that the protesters of Extinction Rebellion are planning to block a major Worcester road in order to publicise their concerns.

No doubt the protesters sincerely believe in their message, and that this approach is the best way to get the message across.

But do they really think that obstructing the lives of ordinary people is really the way to win friends and influence people?

If they do carry out their protest as planned, people will be late for work appointments, hospital visits, or just going to see their loved ones for whatever reason.

Will all those people think that the delays in their lives will have been worthwhile?

Many of them will instead curse the fact that they have had to put up with the inconvenience, and simply not heed Extinction Rebellion’s message at all.

If the group’s cause is so important, why are they not standing for every political position they can find, persuading people to vote for them and then finding themselves in a position to really make a difference?
