A PLAN to build 120 new homes on the edge of a village has received an angry response.

Lioncourt Homes wants to build a mix of one-to-four bedroom homes in Rushwick but villagers have registered a number of objections with Malvern Hills District Council.

The homes would be built on fields to the eastern edge of the village between Claphill Lane, Bransford Road and the A4440.

Lucy Windsor of Christine Avenue said: "I strongly oppose this planning application. We do not want or need any further development of the village.

"Poor bus service, small school. No facilities other than cricket club. No infrastructure to support these houses, doctors, hospital are full."

Susan Louch of Claphill Lane said: "These houses would put too much pressure on the infrastructure of Rushwick. I am concerned about traffic on Claphill Lane, it is already dangerous to pull out of my driveway.

"We have already suffered from poor building procedures by Kier Homes and still have unsold houses in the village. An extra 120 houses is an overwhelming prospect."

Kay Poole of Broadmore Green said the new homes would "change the whole aspect of the village" and would close the green space between Rushwick and Worcester.

More than 20 objections have been made by villagers in Rushwick in less than a week and a petition signatures against further development has attracted hundreds of signatures.

Ellen Hemsworth of Christine Avenue said: " Rushwick does not have the infrastructure to support this development. There is no village shop, traffic is already too high for a small village, bus links are not great and the school is at capacity.

"The village has no need for anymore housing and has already suffered so much disruption from large developments."

Helen Langbridge of Christine Avenue said: "This village has been expanded enough. The infrastructure will not cope and we are losing all our green space. Enough is enough."

The homes would be built in three phrases with the first 30 homes put up in 2021 and two subsequent phases each of 45 homes built by 2023, if the plan was approved.

A consultation was held with villagers in February and received a mixed response, according to the developer.

The plans can be viewed via the planning section of MHDC's website. Consultation ends on October 18. The application number is 19/01378/OUT.
