THE franchisee of a new gym in Diglis has “no plans” to apply for a 24/7 licence, despite concerns from residents.

Signage on the entrance to Anytime Fitness, formerly PF2 Health Club, when it opened on September 2, said ‘24/7’ but was quickly removed.

The gym was allegedly open round the clock the first day despite only legally being allowed to operate from 8am until 11pm.

The gym bosses applied for permission to open at 6am prior to the re-launch and, with the facility apparently already opening at that time regardless, ward councillor Lynn Denham has called in the application.

It will now come before the full planning committee for a decision by councillors, most likely on October 24, when objectors can also voice their concerns.

Emails allegedly sent to members from the gym promised “your club will become 24 hours” and then “we are unable to go 24 hours until further notice.”

New gym opening hours U-turn after crunch meeting

An Anytime spokesman said: “The 24/7 signage was put up in error and was swiftly taken down within 24 hours of the gym opening.

“We apologise for any confusion caused.

“The franchisee has no plans to apply for a 24/7 licence for this club and will continue to operate within the current trading hours and work with the local Diglis community to provide a welcoming and premium fitness facility.” Cllr Denham said previously: “There are still considerable concerns regarding possible hours of operation of the business in a residential area and the planning application is yet to be determined.”
