MORE community events have been held to raise money for a schoolboy with leukaemia.

An appeal for Oscar Saxelby-Lee is hoping to raise £500,000 for the five-year-old to receive CAR-T cell therapy in Singapore - which is not available on the NHS. The campaign, which is the fastest-growing currently being hosted by charity fundraising site Virgin Money Giving thanks to the generous people of the city and county.

The Horn and Trumpet in Worcester will be hosting a charity night on October 4. There will be raffle prizes on offer, and all donations will contribute towards Oscar’s treatment.

Hanley Swan and District Royal British Legion Club are hosting a music night. A live band will perform hits from the 60’s onwards. The party will begin at 7.30pm on October 12 with an entrance fee of £7.

Kristian Vinyard who has been growing his beard for eight months will brave the shave. He will have his beard shaved off on October 10 and hopes to raise £200. To donate, visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/KristianVinyardBigBeardShave

Kate Wilcock, headteacher from Oscar’s school Pitmaston Primary said: “There is an overwhelming rush of excitement every time the total donation increases, creeping nearer and nearer to the target of £500,000.00.

“Businesses, small and large, are donating a days profit to the campaign and running various fundraising days. Schools have started holding their Oscar Days and sharing amazing totals. The response to the appeal is incredible, we cannot thank people enough for their generosity.

“Please keep sharing, I know we can all pull together and ensure Oscar gets this life saving treatment.”

A boxing session was held at the Tolly Hub on September 25 and raised £95.

Staff from Claines CE Primary School held an Oscar Day on September 25 and raised £1,702.69. Children brought in silver coins to spell out his name along with paying to break school rules, such as drink fizzy drinks.

Students from Red Hill CE Primary School had a non-uniform day and raised £718 on September 23.

The fundraising currently stands at almost £309,000.

The appeal is being supported by the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and any money not spent on Oscar's treatment will be used to fund research into kinder treatments for children's cancer.
