COUNCILLORS and residents in Upper Gornal will take on a daredevil abseil challenge at Dudley Castle to fund life-saving equipment in their community.

The fundraising feat takes place on Sunday, October 13 where councillors Keiran Casey and Adam Aston will be joined by residents in an abseil down the side of the historic castle's keep.

They aim to raise as much money as possible to fund a public access community defibrillator to be installed at Sycamore Adventure Centre on the Old Park Farm Estate.

Councillor Keiran Casey said: "Myself and Adam take community safety extremely seriously and have been working hard on projects like this with local residents.

"We have already managed to get a number of these Defibrillators installed locally, which can save lives, but we know there is much more than to be done.

"Working with the Sycamore Centre and St John Ambulance, and to support the great work all the staff do at the Sycamore Centre, we are abseiling down the side of the castle to raise funds for this be vital community safety equipment."

Councillor Adam Aston said: "The work that Keith and the whole team do at the centre is vitally important to the local area and makes a massive difference.

"We have been running a number of campaigns locally to try and improve community safety and a defibrillator would be ideal on the centre, not only for the centre to use, but would also mean that anyone on the estate would have access to this in the event of an emergency."

Keith Rogers, manager at Sycamore Adventure Centre, said: "We are delighted that Adam and Keiran are supporting us with this as it's always great to have the help and support of our local councillors.

"We want to raise as much money as we can as these Defibrillators can save lives and will improve safety not only at the centre but on the estate too."
