A WOMAN who bit a child's face and who failed to attend court has been arrested and is expected to learn her sentence today.

Cara Drummond, previously of Worcester, was supposed to be sentenced for assaulting or ill-treating a child last Monday.

The offence took place on May 18 last year, and happened just a week after she was handed a suspended sentence for smashing a woman's head off a takeaway counter and punching someone else.

The 22-year-old, now of Mount Street, Redditch, was convicted of the biting offence at Kidderminster Magistrates Court in April, and was originally due to be sentenced at Worcester Crown Court in June.

But in September, her barrister, Abigail Nixon, was granted an adjournment for a psychiatric report to be prepared on behalf of her client, telling the court Drummond had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and PTSD.

After delays to the case, her sentence hearing was changed to last Monday. But at that hearing her barrister, Miss Nixon, confirmed to Judge Nicolas Cartwright that she had spoken to Drummond, who had said she was on her way - but she later took instructions from colleagues that this was not likely.

Miss Nixon also said Drummond had terminated an interview for the psychiatric report, adding "it seems clear I can't carry that on anymore".

The judge issued a bench warrant, and a spokesman for West Mercia Police has now confirmed Drummond was arrested last Tuesday.

Drummond is scheduled to appear at Worcester Crown Court today.

The Worcester News has also previously reported how Drummond, then aged 19, racially abused a Polish woman when she lived in George Street, Worcester, in July 2016.

In that case Drummond, who had been drinking, shouted 'go back to your own country!', used a racially offensive term and also said: "I will slap you!"
